Rationale 1a: By having a management plan in place I am able to deal with each child fairly, and be proactive rather than reactive
(b) demonstrating empathy and a genuine caring for others
Rationale 1b) empathy and genuine caring is shown in many ways, and the little actions we do every day. One way I demonstrate this is through providing students with modifications to lessons (see 4. Establishing Inclusive Learning Environments. I also believe in letting students know that they matter, and I think about them as people. I do this by listening to them and providing time to regulate before asking them to learn. I am also completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, through Yorkville University in order to help me better navigate student’s complex lives. The links below are an example of resources I use to help students regulate before learning.

(c) providing culturally appropriate and meaningful opportunities for students and for parents/guardians, as partners in education, to support student learning
Rationale 1c) I believe that the best way to provide students, and parents/guardians to act as partners in education is through effective communication. This includes the use of blogs, notes in agendas, and emails. The blog above is an example of a blog format that I have used in the past. While this one is not currently used to communicate with students and parents/guardians, when I have a steady classroom I used a very similar set up. The intent is to make general information about the class and school readily available.
(d) inviting First Nations, Métis and Inuit parents/ guardians, Elders/knowledge keepers, cultural advisors and local community members into the school and classroom

Rationale 1d) I invite all parents/guardians to volunteer when they can in my classroom. Steps I take to invite FNMI peoples specifically are found in 5. Applying Foundational Knowledge rather than giving the same evidence twice.

(e) collaborating with community service professionals, including mental health, social services, justice, health and law enforcement
Attended Mehrit Centre’s (https://self-reg.ca/) Self-Reg conference May 3-4 2019. This conference covered working together in order to aid students in self-regulation in order to improve overall well-being.

(f) honouring cultural diversity and promoting intercultural understanding.
Rationale 1f) From the beginning and throughout my career I have worked with a vast variety of culturally diverse peoples. This photo is of my second teaching practicum cohort. We were made up a variety of different ethnicities, races, and cultures. I have expanded on this more recently by spending almost half my time as a guest teacher teaching at Hutterite Colony Schools in Southern Alberta. Below is a picture of a Pysanka (Ukrainian Easter egg) made by a Hutterite student during a lesson taught by me in April 2023.
